This research examines the results of inner migration driven by severe pure disasters on college students in host communities, and the mechanisms behind these effects, using the big inflow of migrants into Florida public schools within the aftermath of Hurricane Maria. The demise of George Floyd, along with racial inequities exacerbated by the global coronavirus pandemic, pushed racial justice issues to the forefront of our conversations in 2020.
